a new place to get food

Thanks to one of two KT America calling cards I got at Am-Ko last week, I was able to call and talk to Chun Sun for a couple of hours this morning. Then I went to Terre Haute to get a haircut and see about a Rose-Hulman license plate.

On my way back to Third Street on Wabash, I found an Asian market in downtown Terre Haute. It's seems a little small, until you realize it's located in Terre Haute[6]. They have foodstuffs from several parts of Asia, so each country has a stand of shelves with food particular to it, and that's about it. Upon checking out [0], I was informed that they have a cooking class once a month where you go in and pay $15 to learn to cook three dishes and then sit and eat them and talk, so I might go in July if schedules permit.

I caught them the day before the delivery truck usually comes, so I didn't buy any fresh vegetables. However, I did get a few cold things and some bottled sauces, so tonight I'll be having 불고기 bulgogi[1] with some 오징어채 ojingo chae[2], 부 dubu[3], and 김치 kimchi[4] as 반찬 banchan[5].

Tomorrow, it's off to Michigan to visit my parents and sister for a couple of days.

[3]You know it as tofu. It's the soft kind.

[7]especially once I started asking about Korean foods that they didn't have in yet

Hey, I think I've been there! It's across from the ISU campus, next to a Hallmark or something?

Have fun in Michigan!

Heidi:

I've been there as well, it's a cute little store. My friend was very disappointed that they don't sell Aloe Vera juice though. ;) How far are you from TH?

charles:

I'm about an hour north of the Haute, depending on traffic.

Actually, it's more or less an hour drive to anywhere except work. That may change before the end of the year.

Mike:

Heidi -

Thanks for suggesting Aloe juice... Charles picked up a liter of it and let me have some. It's quite good! I like squishing the aloe pulp in my mouth! Too bad things like that don't catch on in the US.

Sara:

:-D I could have told you it was there. Doug and I used to go shopping there quite often. I always wanted to take a cooking class but never really had the time.
