Saturday afternoon meant a trip to Champaign to pick up my last Papa Del's paycheck and to deposit my first new job paycheck. That final check was substantially more than I expected it to be, which helps immensely in financial matters. On the way back from the bank, I made a detour up Prospect to see what movies were playing at the Beverly, and I was shocked to see traffic backed up for blocks in the northbound lanes.
At any rate, once at the Beverly, I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and it was good. The previous version, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, took a long time to grow on me. The first few times I saw it, I thought it was awful. That was not the case this time. Aside from a minor venture into Wonka's childhood (and having Mr. Teevee along instead of Mrs.) -- and the ending -- Burton managed to follow the book very well.
Back to that line of traffic. As soon as my car got out of the theatre parking lot, the reason for the giant car blockage was easily and horribly visible: the new super Wal-Monster was open, and the parking lot was packed. Let's just say I am very glad to have the local IGA in Rockville to keep me from having to return to the Terre Haute Wal-Mart for food.
Had a very late lunch at the Courier. Then more books were packed away in my car and I came home to unpack them. I borrowed Harry Potter 6 and P.G Wodehouse's Girl in Blue from Michael Mitchell. Saturday midnight, I started The Half-Blood Prince, and by six-thirty Sunday morning, it was finished. Girl in Blue was just finished about thirty minutes ago.
I'm going to have to read more Wodehouse; I have a feeling this book isn't just a fluke. The rest of today was work, haircut, groceries, and laundry, interspersed with lots of eating.
Hmmm... Although lately I am having a much richer life as films and books go, I really need to get out more with other people. *half-jokingly* maybe the library....
